The President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, highlighted that the Valencian Community “closed the best summer in its entire history with absolute record for hotel nights and tourist spending“, while attributing these figures “essentially to the behavior of foreign tourism”.
Specifically, the Valencian Community recorded this summer (during the months of June, July and August) a total of 10,770,842 hotel nights, 4% more than last year, according to the latest surveys published by the INE .
“The highest number recorded in the Community corresponding to the year 2019 is exceeded by almost 100,000 overnight stays, of which the 10,674,790 nights“, declared Mazón, as indicated by the Generalitat in a press release.
In addition, he highlighted the increase in tourist spending by foreign tourists achieved during these three summer months, since during this period 5,582.14 million euros of spending by international tourists were recorded, 23.9% more than the figure reached in 2023, and 50.9% more than that of 2023. in 2019, the year before the pandemic.
The head of the Consell highlighted that this is “the highest data recorded in the Valencian Community, where not only overnight stays in hotels have increased, but above all tourist spending made by foreign visitors”.
It is for this reason that he declared that the Generalitat “will continue to work to consolidate these results, but also to improve the data outside the summer season.” In this sense, he emphasized that the objective of the Consell is “the impetus to deseasonalize and diversify tourist activity of the Valencian Community.
Mazón highlighted the “new stage for the tourism industry of the territory in which the Valencian Community opens to the world” and ratified the will of the Consell to “continue promoting it with common sense, balance and sustainability”.
Likewise, he highlighted the Consell’s commitment to providing “security, certainty and stability” to this industry, which he considers “a strategic sector” for the economic and social development of the Valencian Community.
In this regard, he mentioned the repeal of the tourist tax, the “emergency” decree-law for the regulation and organization of tourist accommodation, the fight against tourism phobia, in addition to the implementation work of Viaja+6 social tourism program5among other measures.
Record figures for hotel nights
Concerning hotel nights, the number of travelers in establishments in the three provinces exceeded 3.17 million, i.e. 3% more than during the same period of the previous year and recording 72,000 more travelers than in 2019, where the record number of travelers in Valencian hotels was recorded. .
With an average of 150,000 hotel beds openthe average occupancy rate of hotels in the Valencian Community is around 75% this summer season.
The coast of the province of Alicante and Benidorm are the most requested areas, followed by the city of Valencia and the coast of Castellón, the latter even surpassing the capital in number of hotel nights during the months of July and August.
Regarding demand, it should be noted that practically all foreign markets record an increase in the number of hotels in the Valencian Community during this year 2024, in particular the British market, which constitutes the main source market of international tourists. Markets such as Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy.
With reference to the national market, the internal demand of citizens of the Valencian Community is the one that has recorded the greatest increase this year, with an increase of 7.9% until August. In addition, Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia are the national markets with the highest number of overnight stays in Valencian destinations.
