Netanyahu spoke with Macron: what they discussed

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Message from the Head of Government:

“The Prime Minister reiterated Israel’s position: Just as Iran supports all elements of Iran’s terrorist axis, Israel’s friends should support it and not impose restrictions that will only strengthen Iran’s axis of evil.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel’s actions against Hezbollah create an opportunity to change the situation in Lebanon towards stability, security and peace in the region. “Both leaders agreed to continue discussing this issue during the visit of the French Foreign Minister, who has requested a visit to Israel.”

Recall that the other day French President Emmanuel Macron presented a proposal to prohibit the supply to Israel of weapons used in the conflict in the Gaza Strip. He noted that it is important to avoid double standards in relation to global conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine and the Middle East.

In response to these words, Benjamin Netanyahu sent a message to Macron expressing his confidence that Israel will continue its actions, regardless of France’s opinion. The prime minister described Macron’s call for the embargo as a “shame”, to which the Elysee Palace recalled that Macron “supports Israel’s security” and this is confirmed by his actions.

The French administration said the country’s military was deployed this week in response to Iran’s missile attack, as it did in April. The statement emphasized that Macron personally briefed the Iranian president about France’s commitment to Israel’s security. He also said France will not allow attacks against Israel by Iran or its allies and will always stand by the Jewish state if Tehran uses force.

At the same time, Macron noted that “the urgent task is to prevent the escalation of tensions in the region,” including an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
