Two people die in an explosion near an airport in Pakistan

An explosion occurred in the Pakistani city of Karachi, near Jinnah International Airport. At least two people were killed and 10 more injured, Geo TV reported, citing Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar.

As a result of the explosion, two cars and two motorcycles caught fire.

Lanjar said there were foreign nationals in the car affected by the explosion, which he believed was a targeted attack against foreigners. An investigation into the explosion has already been launched, including recordings from CCTV cameras. There are reports of an improvised explosive device, the minister added.

An Interior Ministry spokesman told The Associated Press that it was an attack on Chinese citizens, one of whom was injured.

Police initially said the explosion killed one person and injured six others. Ambulance officials said six people injured in the explosion were taken to hospital.

AP reported that the Pakistani Taliban group* (Taliban movement* (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) was already targeting “Chinese interests.”

In 2022, an explosion rocked a university campus in southern Pakistan, killing three Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver.

A separatist group then claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack, stating that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber, RBC clarifies.
