In New Zealand, a statue of a hand with a human face is being torn down, frightening local residents.

Oku.Az reports that UPI writes about it.

A sculpture of a giant hand with a human face, known as a ‘quasi’, will be removed from the roof of the Wellington City Gallery, where it has been for the past five years. Commissioned by the Christchurch Art Gallery in 2016, the work created by artist Ronnie van Hout was not well received by local residents.

Jane Black, president of the Wellington Sculpture Foundation, said Quasi’s removal was a significant loss to the city’s landscape.

“This statue had no analogues and caused a sensation from the first day,” he said.

Dismantling is scheduled for the end of the week, after which the statue will be shipped to Australia, but the installation location has not yet been announced.
