The Madrid court resumes the debate on whether to classify or limit the case of Begoña Gómez

The Provincial Court of Madrid resumes this Monday the analysis of the resources of the prosecution and the defense of Begoña Gomezwife of the President of the Government, who ask to limit or archive the investigation opened against her for influence peddling and alleged corruption in the business world.

The hearing was scheduled for last Monday, although that day the magistrates of section 23 realized that the investigating court of Begoña Gómez, investigation 41 of Madrid, had not sent them one of the two appeals on which they had to rule, precisely that of his lawyer, the former minister Antonio Camacho. They will therefore meet again this Monday behind closed doors to decide whether they should examine one of the two appeals presented by the prosecution and the defense of Begoña Gómez, or if they should abandon the case as ordered by the judge Juan Carlos Peinado.

THE Gómez’s defense requests the file, saying it is a prospective and universal investigationprohibited by law, and denounces that the judge continued to investigate facts unrelated to those indicated by the Madrid court in an order last May. The Prosecutor’s Office, for its part, requests that the investigation be limited in the terms that the Court proposed in the aforementioned order, and warns that the judicial process is “generic and lacks specificity”.

Legal sources consulted by EFE consider it unlikely that the court’s decision will be advanced this Monday, which will result in an order in which Judge Francisco José Goyena will be the speaker.

The appeals that the Court will study were presented at the beginning of July, before the judge gave impetus to the investigation and indicted the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés and the rector of the Complutense University, Joaquín Goyache, and calls the president of the government as a witness, Pedro Sánchez.

In addition to this debate, another judicial body, the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM), will study on Tuesday the opportunity to admit the complaint filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, on behalf of the Chief Executive, against Judge Peinado for alleged prevarication in several of his resolutions, such as the one that summoned him to Moncloa as a witness.
