Gazprom will double gas exports to Kyrgyzstan. Supplies are limited by pipeline capacity.
“We signed an important agreement that guarantees the supply of gas to Kyrgyzstan until 2040. In two years it is planned to increase the volume to 800 million cubic meters.” — said the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev at a meeting of the Eldik parliamentary group, reports the local economist.
According to the minister, the problem with the import of Russian gas lies in the capacity of the infrastructure, but they are already being resolved.
Previously, in June, Gazprom announced a long-term contract.
“Supplies under the new contracts between Gazprom Export LLC and Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC will be made in the period 2025-2040. Long-term contracts for the supply of natural gas were also concluded between Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC and the republic’s large consumers: Electric Stations OJSC and Bishkekteploenergo KP, the company reported.
In 2023, Kyrgyzstan imported 389 million cubic meters from Russia, and in seven months the pace increased – 297 million cubic meters. According to the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, blue fuel costs the country $150 per thousand cubic meters. The importer is Gazprom subsidiary Gazprom Kyrgyzstan, which is the country’s main gas company.
Central Asian countries are becoming a market for the Russian company, which will partly offset the decline in supplies to Europe. Last year, Uzbekistan began importing Russian gas: 3 billion cubic meters per year. In the coming years, supply is expected to increase to 11.7 billion cubic meters. The option of gasifying northeast Kazakhstan is also being studied, which will allow Gazprom to sell additional volumes in Kazakhstan and build a new route to China. The capacity of the gas pipeline is estimated at 40 billion cubic meters.
