Banned worldwide, sale continues in Azerbaijan: are “Sloboda” oils DANGEROUS?

Disturbing information has spread about unrefined sunflower oil “Sloboda” produced in the Belgorod region of Russia. It was decided to ban the sale of batches of sunflower oil imported to Belarus under the “Sloboda” brand due to their non-compliance with the requirements of the Belarusian state standard.

The information indicates that the oils do not meet the requirements of the Customs Union “On food safety”, “Technical regulations for petroleum and petroleum products”, GOST 1129-2013 “Sunflower oil”:

“Poorly refined and aged oil contains more peroxides. The higher the number of peroxides, the longer the oil is stored in the light. It seems very possible that this oil was made from poor quality raw materials, sunflower seeds in poor condition”.

The sale of “Sloboda” in Belarus and around the world has been banned since September 23 due to the revealed facts – non-compliance with the rules of the Customs Union.

But currently on the Azerbaijani market there are quite a few “Sloboda” oils. “Sloboda” oils can be found even in the largest trading networks in the country.

“These oils cannot be stored for a long time”

Eyyub Huseynov, President of the Azad Işekhlakçılar Public Union, who shared his opinion on the issue with Bizim.Media, said that the shelf life of underrefined oils is very short:

“It is good that the production of these oils has started in Azerbaijan. In the coming days we will be able to see samples of local production in the markets. However, oil manufacturers give a long shelf life to their products to manufacture them. “Immortal” Therefore, the decision on “Sloboda” is logical, because less refined oil cannot be stored for a long time.

Let us also keep in mind that the concept of dangerous and low-quality goods refers to certain parts. It is a pity that the Belarusian side does not indicate which batches of the product the decision applies to. Therefore, it is not excluded that batches of oil whose consumption is prohibited will enter Azerbaijan. “Sloboda” oils, the consumption of which is prohibited in other countries, should also be sensitive in our country.

It is interesting that, amid warnings from the competent institutions of Belarus, the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan also conducted examinations.

The organization said there is no need to panic and worry:

“The Agency’s specialists took samples of various types of batches of vegetable oil with the brand “Sloboda” sold in various trading networks operating on the territory of the country and sent them to the relevant laboratories of the Institute of Food Safety of Azerbaijan for testing. examination. No inconsistency was detected. There is no reason to worry about the food product in question.”
