The PP will delay the vote in the Senate on the legal reform that reduces the sentences of ETA prisoners

The legal reform which will allow four dozen ETA members to reduce their sentences will ultimately not be approved this Tuesday in the Senate. The People’s Party has decided delete agenda text in a maneuver that only allows the opposition to gain a few days, but which serves to demand that the government use its power to withdraw the legislative change from its parliamentary treatment.

The invoice went unnoticed during treatment in Congress – in fact it was approved unanimously – and it is now in the Senate without any party being aware of the scandal, reported this Monday by El Confidencial and confirmed by ABC.

In the Upper House No parliamentary group has introduced amendments to its treatmentwhich makes it impossible to stop it now to try to correct the amendments silently introduced in Congress, both proposed by Sumar, to modify article 14.1 of Organic Law 7/2014 and remove the only additional provision included in the text approved which year.

In a last-minute maneuver, the Popular Party announced that it would remove the bill from the agenda of tomorrow’s plenary session in the Senate, although this would only delay its approval by a few days, as it is in urgent processing course and, if If the Senate does not give its approval before the 14th, the standard will be automatically approved.

This is why the people are asking the Government to take advantage of this period to use its power to withdraw this legal reform from which up to 40 members of ETA could benefit. “This way we will know what the true will of the Executive was. The responsibility for overturning this decision remains in your hands,” the People’s Party said.

From Genoa, they warn that if the Executive does not withdraw the text, the PP will seek “any” legal or parliamentary alternative “that can protect this country from indecency that would result in reducing the sentences of ETA terrorists through parliamentary tricks”.

Anyway, the PP does not hide that this rule has passed its entire parliamentary process without triggering any alarm and the leader of the party himself, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, spoke this Monday with the president of the Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) for “present yourself personally for what happened and share the rejection of any parliamentary trick consisting of reducing the sentences of terrorists.
