Russian athlete Elena Smirnova, 41, died during the Ironman triathlon tournament in Barcelona, ​​Spain. This was reported by the Ironman press service.

Now the athlete’s body is in Spain, where an investigation is being carried out, the results of the autopsy are awaited, which will allow an accurate conclusion to be drawn about the causes of the tragedy. “The native athletes want the body to return to Russia as soon as possible.” – writes TK.

Smirnova had been participating in competitions such as Ironman for about four years and was considered an experienced athlete. After swimming almost four kilometers, he had to cycle 180 kilometers and run a marathon distance of 41.195 kilometers.

It should be noted that Smirnova lived in St. Petersburg.
