Maintenance of F-16s transferred to kyiv may be established in Poland – Saint John

Maintenance of the American F-16 fighters transferred to Ukraine can be organized in Poland, Frank St. John, chief operating officer of Lockheed Martin, told Defense One.

To keep the F-16s transferred to Ukraine flying, kyiv and its allies will need to create an extensive maintenance and logistics network. The two governments are still discussing how exactly the United States will do this. Once they reach an agreement, however, Lockheed will be willing to help with maintenance, St. John said.

Ukrainian F-16s, according to St. John, can be serviced at Lockheed’s service center in Poland. It is built so that the hundreds of F-16s operating in Europe do not have to return to the United States for major maintenance and upgrades.

“Our intention for this facility is for it to be regional, and Ukraine is certainly part of that region.” said Saint John.

He said the company is coordinating its actions with the U.S. government and will follow its recommendations.

“We have not signed any contracts yet,” St. John said.
