He Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presented in Washington on Friday, through its Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, a list of targets that Ukraine wants to attack in Russia with long-range supersonic ballistic missiles (ATACMS), supplied by the United States. To this end, a Ukrainian delegation went to Washington to meet with the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, as well as other Western officials. Kyiv wants to remove restrictions on the conditions under which it can use long-range weapons. Meanwhile, Washington is opposed to Ukraine striking hard at Russian territory so that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not escalate the conflict.
Ukraine wants to use anti-aircraft missiles used by the Russian military to launch attacks on Ukrainian population centers. Ukraine insists on lifting restrictions on use of ATACMS missiles to protect its population and its infrastructure.
In June, the United States already authorized Ukraine to attack Russian military targets across the border. Instead, It maintained its ban on carrying out attacks inside Russia with long-range weapons such as ATACMS..
However, the President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine’s capture of the Russian city of Sudzhalocated less than 10 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, shows that the fears of Washington and the European Union are unfounded.
After nearly a month without an ATACMS strike, it appears that the United States 🇺🇸 has reduced ATACMS shipments as well as the size of its military aid packages.

Supersonic missiles: ATACMS
ATACMS is a long-range guided missile that provides commanders with immediate firepower to shape the battlespace. It has a 500-pound WDU18 high-explosive fragmentation warhead. Its maximum range is 300 kilometers. ATACMS missiles are fired from the M270 HIMARS and MLRS platforms.
