The problem of access to housing is becoming more and more unsustainable, particularly in “distressed areas”. At the Urban Planning Commission of the Casona del Parque de Málaga, the political group “Con Málaga” presented a motion to implement a “new city model” which gives priority to access to housing.
During the Commission, Carmen Casero, urban planning councilor of Malaga City Council and representative of the Popular Party, responded to Toni Morillas, spokesperson for “Málaga con Todos”. Morrillas had described as “speculators” those who acquire properties without applying for a mortgage loan. In response, Casero stated that “not all Malaga residents are poor and not all Malaga residents are forced to take out a mortgage”.
Morrillas, however, counterattacked by pointing out that “45% of the population living in rentals risks exclusion”. The spokesperson also highlighted the unaffordability of housing prices in Malaga, emphasizing that the majority of citizens cannot afford to buy a house without a mortgage.
