“I’ve had a Glock for a while.”

The American vice president and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harrisdiscussed this Monday in an interview on the show ’60 minutes’ CBS News Americans’ right to own guns, claiming she owns a Glock pistol and explaining her economic plan.

“I have a Glock and I’ve had it for a while.” Harris told reporter Bill Whitaker during an interview on the popular show’s election special. When asked if he had fired the shot, Harris smiled his trademark smile and nodded. “Yes… In a shooting gallery. Yes, of course.”

This isn’t the first time the Democratic candidate has admitted to owning a gun; during the presidential debate, the vice president said she and her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, were “gun owners.”

The former president Donald Trump (2017-2021) suggested that if Harris became president, she would attempt to limit the right to own guns provided in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which the Democratic candidate denied.

“I have the best plan”

Harris took advantage of the interview on the famous show to talk about his proposals, especially those that concern the economy, one of the most important issues for voters in the United States, and promote that his proposal is the best .

“We now have an economy that is thriving by all macroeconomic indicators,” he highlighted the achievements of President Joe Biden’s administration and promised to continue with low unemployment figures.

He highlighted his plan to “deal with” high food pricesinvest in small businesses, help the middle class and restore the tax credit for families with children under the age of one.

Harris was asked how she would handle the $3 trillion deficit facing the country, to which she responded that she would raise taxes on high-income earners and hoped that congressional leaders would be willing to support her.

“Many leaders in Congress understand and know that the Trump tax cuts have caused our federal deficit to explode,” warned the vice-president, who indicated that she is “a capitalist” who knows the limits of government.

Response to wars

The Democrat answered questions about the conflict in Israel and Gaza, as this Monday marks the first anniversary of the Hamas attack, and assured that it was necessary to end this war. However, he avoided answering several questions on whether the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “does not take into account” the United States.

He warned that he would not meet bilaterally with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate a solution to end the war in Ukraine. “Ukraine must have a say in the future of Ukraine,” he said.

He also moved to dig deeper into immigration and the Biden administration’s response to containing the high number of irregular immigrants entering. “This is a long-standing problem. And the solutions are within our reach. And from day one, we’ve literally been offering solutions,” he said.

Harris used the interview to attack Trump for canceling an interview on this program last week and preferring his meetings, where “he only talks about himself” and devotes himself to expressing grievances, he said.

The Democratic candidate remains at the top of voting intentions. According to the average of polls prepared by the site FiveThirtyEight, he is ahead of Trump by 2.5 percentage points at the federal level, although in key states this difference is not so significant.
