The Templars ask the Pope to restore their order, suspended more than 700 years ago

THE Association Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christwho claims to be the templars current, filed this Monday a new legal action (the third in less than two years) for conciliation against the Pope Francisin which they demand the rehabilitation of the order, suspended in 1312, that is to say 712 years ago.

The plaintiffs specify in the memorial that the order was suspended “illegitimately” on April 2, 1312 at the Council of Vienna (Bula Vox Calamantis). “Not by virtue of a judicial decision, but by virtue of an apostolic ordinance of Pope Clement V», they emphasize. They even claim that “it was a huge mistake made under pressure from King Philip the Fair”.

Furthermore, in the statement they specify that the order of the Templars was eradicated in a process that continued without “any evidence” and that, when it was eliminated, the number of knights was “15,300 of which 650 were killed and 14,650 escaped and their Grand Master Jacques de Molay was burned alive on March 18, 1314.

For this reason, the so-called “current Templars” demand from Pope Francis, in addition to the rehabilitation of the order, a financial compensation for the seizure of his property which, as they indicate, “were for the most part handed over to the Order of Saint John of the Hospital called Malta”.

Likewise, among other demands, they demand the Maximum pontiff that the Templar priesthood be recognized according to the Rite of Melchizedek (that they be authorized to build oratories and chapels), that the collection of Saint Bernard in all parishes be for the Order; that the Vatican archives on the Order be handed over to them and that the Church of the True Cross of Segovia be returned to them.

This is not the first time that the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ has requested his rehabilitation, before the Vatican or through various requests for conciliation and ordinary trial. The latest, as they remember, were conciliation requests dated October 14, 2023 and January 11, 2023 before the Court of First Instance 73. Previously, they had also submitted conciliation requests in 2005, 2006 and 2007, an ordinary trial the same year and an appeal in 2008.
