The citizens of Azerbaijan who were on board the ship detained in Odessa were evacuated to our country

With the support of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ukraine, the Azerbaijani crew of the ship flying the Cameroonian flag and which was detained on the territory of Ukraine was evacuated.

The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine informed AZERTAC that a request was received on September 6 on the emergency hotline of the embassy’s consular department. It was learned that for more than a month the commercial ship “Usko Mfu”, belonging to the company “Usko Shipping”, which sails under the flag of Cameroon in the seaport “Reniy” of Odessa, was detained in the mentioned port and its Exit to the sea was restricted by the Ukrainian government. It was determined that 12 people were on board the ship, 7 of them (a captain) were citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The embassy immediately took urgent measures to evacuate citizens of Azerbaijan. In this regard, in accordance with the relevant clauses of the Consular Agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Ukraine on March 24, 1997 in kyiv, correspondence was initiated with Ukrainian state institutions regarding the evacuation of our citizens.

Initially, the restriction imposed on the entry into the country of citizens of the State Border Service of Ukraine was removed. In addition, the embassy submitted a request to the administration of the commercial sea port “Reniy” and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to hold relevant meetings. As a result of the relevant steps taken by the embassy, ​​an agreement was reached for the evacuation of our citizens on October 4.

On the mentioned date, the officials responsible for consular affairs of the embassy, ​​Ghalibbey Aghadadashov and Parviz Asadov, were sent to the sea trade port “Reniy”, and together with the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a Turkish citizen was evacuated. and returned to his homeland.
