Storms will continue throughout the night from Saturday 31 August to Sunday 1 September on the Atlantic coast, where Météo-France has put four coastal departments on orange alert.
Morbihan, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée and Charente-Maritime remain affected, while the orange alert was lifted at midnight in Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, according to the latest meteorological update, published at midnight.
“A storm system is forming in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula late on Saturday, then moving north and affecting the Atlantic coast during Saturday afternoon and Saturday night into Sunday.”the meteorological institute indicated in an earlier bulletin.
Wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour
Wind gusts of close to 100 kilometres per hour were observed: 97 kilometres per hour in Rion-des-Landes (Landes) and Belin-Béliet (Gironde).
In terms of rainfall, between 30 and 40 millimetres of rain were recorded in Landes and Gironde, the public establishment said, and it also reported 30 millimetres in Auray, in Morbihan.
In the second part of the night, in the orange-colored apartments, “We expect total rainfall of between 40 and 60 millimetres within a few hours; wind gusts of between 70 and 80 kilometres per hour (occasionally 90); hail is not excluded.”concludes Météo-France.
