The 1st Tasting Competition once again makes Alcázar de San Juan the regional wine headquarters

The “Vinos del Quijote” building of Regulatory Council of the La Manche Designation of Origin This weekend the 1st Alcázar de San Juan Tasting Competition took place. This is the first edition of an event supervised by the Regional League of Tasters of Castile-La Mancha, organized by the Association of Tasters of Castile-La Mancha and in which the Alcázar de San Juan Town Hall and the Regulatory Council of the DO La Manche. Councilor Javier Castellanos was present to accompany María Victoria Jiménez Quevedo, president of the Regional Association of Tasters of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as the rest of those present.

Around 40 participants gathered at the Alcázar de San Juan to face 5 tests in which they would have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge about wine in a “sensory perception competition”, as described by Jiménez, who indicated that the different tests were designed exclusively by the La Mancha Wine Designation of Origin, without the participation of the Association of Tasters, thus guaranteeing impartiality in the conduct of the competition.

Likewise, the 20 best scores in the Tasting Competition I Alcázar de San Juan accumulate points to participate in the final phase of the Regional League, which will take place on December 1. Thus, the president of Regional Association of Tasters of Castile-La Mancha explained that participants in the different competitions have the opportunity to add points to their profile, thus improving their chances of success in the final phase.

María Trujillo, head of the La Mancha designation of origin tasting juryindicated that in this first edition of the Alcázar de San Juan Tasting Competition they introduced a pioneering type of test in this type of competition, focused on discovering the wine production area. For his part, councilor Javier Castellanos thanked the La Mancha Designation of Origin and the Association of Tasters of Castile-La Mancha for once again making the Alcázar de San Juan the meeting point of the region, this time around wine culture.

The results of the competition were as follows:

• 1st place: María Dolores Mateo Alcolea.

• 2nd place: Manuela Sánchez Lirio.

• 3rd place: Juan Carlos González Fernández.

• Special mention to the local taster: Antonio Martínez Molina.

• Special mention for taster under 30 years old: Miriam Romero Pérez.
