Portero’s widow accuses Sánchez of ‘supporting’ ETA and ‘marketing’ to prisoners to ‘retain power’

Rosario de la Torre, widow of Luis PorteroAttorney General of Andalusia assassinated by ETA in 2000, accused this Tuesday the PSOE and to the president of the government, Pedro Sanchezto “whitewash” the “cursed scourge” of ETA and next to Pictures, “marketing” to ETA detainees “continue to cling to power, thus supporting the murderers and not the victims.”

Portero’s widow spoke this way in the act of homage which took place at the Courts of the Plaza de Castilla in Madrid in memory of the figure of the prosecutor on the eve of the 24th anniversary of his murder. He was shot dead in front of the door of his house in Malaga while waiting for the elevator. Members of ETA Harriet Iragi and Jon Igor Solana They were found guilty as material perpetrators of the crime.

De la Torre, who was the last to speak, launched a tough talk against the Sánchez government and against the PSOE, which almost a quarter of a century after the assassination of her husband “continues to betray to all victims of terrorism, including those who died defending the ideas of their party. “For Pedro Sánchez, the first thing is him, then the PSOE, but not the PSOE before, but the one he is creating,” he warned.

“Since 2018, the PSOE has transferred all detainees to prisons in the Basque Country and, in 2021, it transferred responsibility for prisons to the Basque Government. This is how they wash their hands Sánchez and Marlaska,” he added, also criticizing the management of the Ministry of the Interior.

Portero’s widow recalled that “chance” meant that the first ETA prisoner to obtain the right third degree penitentiarythat is to say a regime of semi-liberty, whether Harriet Iragi, the ETA “who pulled the trigger” to murder her husband. Iragi was also found guilty of the assassination of PP advisor José María Martín Carpena, in Malaga, and that of doctor and army colonel Antonio Muñoz Cariñanos, in Seville.

“Iragi is only 47 years old and has completed less than half the penalty to which he was sentenced: 54 years. He had already obtained a second diploma with which he enjoyed semi-freedom from Monday to Friday, only sleeping in prison. The other murderer, Igor Solana, has obtained the third degree since June 2024, sleeps in prison from Monday to Friday and has free weekends,” he lamented.

Neither forgiveness nor collaboration with justice

In his speech, De la Torre regretted that Sánchez “distorted the interpretation of the laws” for his negotiations in Congress with Bildu. And he stressed that “this alternative use of the law” is permitted thanks to “certain laws approved by the parliamentary majority of the government” and thanks to “certain civil servants, prosecutors and judges who impose a more or less rigid or lax interpretation of the law “. the rules, “to the extent that it suits the interests of the governing party”.

As an example, Portero’s widow cited the example of third degree concessions to ETA detainees, measures “which seriously violate the two conditions” established by the General prison law for its granting: the first, that “there must be an express declaration of repudiation of terrorist activities and forgiveness to the victims”, and the second, “active collaboration with justice in the clarification of the crimes committed by ETA “.

Already last week, Daniel Porteropresident of the Dignity and Justice association and son of Luis Portero, was also very energetic with the third degree to Harriet Iragi: “I will never forgive the PSOE for having freed my father’s assassins”, he denounced on his social networks.
