Mishustin called for adapting Russian cinema to traditional values

We are faced with a large-scale task: improving the quality of national cinema to make it truly consistent with traditional spiritual and moral values. This was stated by the Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Mishustin, at a strategic session of the Russian government dedicated to the development of cinema.

At the same time, the Prime Minister added, Russian cinema must attract viewers, be in demand, interesting and creative.

“We must continue to create conditions for the development of the industry, improving its economic indicators, since this is the basis for the successful continuation of the creative activities of our filmmakers,” – Mishustin is sure.

The Prime Minister also noted that the role of cinema today is much more important than a simple entertainment function, which can be measured by the number of films released and the box office volume.

“Good films allow you to acquire new knowledge, become familiar with culture, history and art. They teach you to think, empathize and see the diversity of the world, they broaden your horizons. “They are also important for educating the younger generations.” – said the Prime Minister.

Mishustin clarified that in the last six years the Ministry of Culture has financed the production of more than 1,700 films of various genres. About 300 more are borne by the Film Fund, but they are precisely the films that gross the national box office.

Last year alone, films created with government support were seen by around 57.5 million viewers.
