They ask citizens to be “extremely cautious” before the remnants of Hurricane Kirk arrive

Since this Tuesday afternoon, Castilla y León has begun to feel the blows of Storm Kirk in the form of strong gusts of wind. But it will be from this Wednesday that the Community will especially notice the passage of the storm. In anticipation, the municipal councils of several towns in the Community have chosen to close parks and gardens and recommend that citizens avoid wooded areas and remove objects that could fall from balconies and terraces. This is what the municipality of Zamorano did. The Councilor for Economic Promotion and Citizen Protection advised the population to “avoid” risky situations, in particular wooded areas such as Bosque de Valorio, Los Tres Arboles and León Felipe Park, as well as places that present a risk of landslides.

“Although the National Meteorological Agency has deactivated the yellow rain alert in Zamora for today, there will be showers throughout the day and wind gusts could reach up to 45 kilometers per hour. Tomorrow, Aemet again activates the yellow warning for rain and strong winds in Zamora”, he warned. Likewise, the mayor recommended avoiding unnecessary travel.

Palencia City Hall has also taken the decision to temporarily close all parks that may be subject to a perimeter in the city, as well as to demarcate areas such as cycle paths adjacent to the river. The Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Casas, asked pedestrians to be extremely careful if they have to go out in the face of “unusual” wind gusts, which could reach 100 kilometers per hour, and recommended avoiding areas trees due to the risk of falling branches. With the orange alert deactivated, parks will reopen to the public, he added.

Among the measures adopted by Salamanca City Hall is the closure of the city’s parks from this afternoon, as well as the wooded area of the Aldehuela Sports City.

The closed parks are the Jesuits, the Huerta Otea Botanical Garden, the Merced Garden, the pine area of the Picasso Park, the children’s area and the area of the cataloged cedars of the La Alamedilla Park, the Carmelitas promenade at the height from the Campo de San Francisco and the pine area of the Garden of Joys and Shadows.

For their part, firefighters from León City Hall and the Civil Protection Volunteer Group have planned a joint operation in response to the arrival of the remains of Hurricane Kirk, which became a powerful storm upon its arrival in the capital, with expected wind gusts of 100 kilometers per hour and heavy precipitation. The forecast of its impact on the city will extend from this Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon.

It is for this reason that the firefighters have prepared this morning specific tools for the most common actions, leaving everything ready for the interventions that usually occur in the event of a storm, such as cleaning facades, felling trees, removal of elements fallen by the wind and. even drainage of water due to flooding.

For their part, Civil Protection volunteers will carry out a preventive deployment this afternoon in different areas of the city to deal with possible incidents due to the storm and alert the population of the dangers that could arise. All volunteer patrols will be coordinated from the Communication Center of the Fire Station in the Leonese capital, being able to carry out joint actions if necessary, reports Ical.

The municipalities of Ponferrada and Segovia have also closed their respective parks. While this yellow alert lasts, scheduled from 12:00 p.m. this Wednesday October 9 until Thursday 10 at 7:59 p.m., the Segovia City Hall has advised the population to avoid crossing wooded areas in order to reduce any risk as much as possible. , as well as staying away from facades and structures likely to be demolished by the wind.
