Former US President Donald Trump said in an interview that he visited the Gaza Strip. In a conversation about the future of the enclave, Trump mentioned that he had been to the region and had seen its “difficult situation.” However, there is no information about his visit to the Gaza Strip.
According to the New York Times, Trump has never visited the Gaza Strip, neither as president nor during his career as a businessman. His only visit to the region in 2017 included meetings with Israeli leaders and Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank, but did not include Hamas-controlled Gaza.
After Trump’s announcement, his campaign made a comment that raised even more questions. A campaign spokesperson explained: “I was in Israel and Gaza is part of it.” This statement, however, does not correspond to the international legal position, since the Gaza Strip is not part of Israel.
Previously, Cursor wrote that Trump said that after restoration, the Gaza Strip could become one of the “most attractive tourist centers in the world.” In an interview with Politico, he said that with quality water and a Middle East location, Gaza could become more popular than Monaco.
Trump noted that Gaza has “unique potential” if its infrastructure is reactivated after numerous destructions.
