Juanma Moreno asks Brussels for more funding for drought-fighting work

The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Morenohe defended this Wednesday in plenary session of the Committee of the Regions (CoR), in Brussels, and in front of the president of the European Investment Bank, the former vice-president of the government Nadia Calvinothe “urgent” need for Andalusia to have “more resources to build hydraulic infrastructure which allow us to take advantage and reuse every drop of water”, just as the construction of “social housing” was considered a “priority”.

These are ideas that the Andalusian President expressed during his speech during the debate on “Investment Opportunities for Cities and Regions” with the President of the European Investment Bank, Nadia Calviño, within the framework of the 162nd plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, held at the European Parliament, Brussels.

Juanma Moreno began her speech by greeting Calviño and emphasizing that she knows that “she knows very well the problems” of Spain and “the financing needs, in this case of Andalusia”, one of the “European territories most exposed to climate change”. and the “the effects of the terrible drought from which we are suffering”, added.

In this sense, the President of the Council maintained that “it is very important that, in the European Union, it is understood that water is not a problem in the south“But this is a problem for all of Europe, and we urgently need more resources to build water infrastructure that allows us to benefit from and reuse every drop of water.”

The Andalusian president concluded his speech by declaring himself “convinced” that “with the support of the EIB, by simplifying administrative procedures and with more efficiency of local autonomous governments, we will be able to do many and more things.”

Climate change

Before this intervention at the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions, the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia held a meeting with the President of the CoR, Vasco Cordeiro, as well as with the rest of the participants of the delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).

COP29 will be held in Baku (Azerbaijan) between November 11 and 22 under the “pillars” of “strengthening ambition and enabling action”, as reported by the Andalusian government, from where it indicated that, under the motto “Solidarity for a Green World”, this high-level meeting aims to “promote collaboration between countries to achieve the energy transition.

The Andalusian president will attend COP29 as a representative of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union. Andalusia “will have the floor again in this important event”, they underlined from the Board of Directors.
