The Museum of Paleontology of Castile-La Mancha, located in Cuenca, expands its facilities

The Junta de Castilla-La Mancha has expanded the facilities of the Regional Museum of Paleontology (MUPA), located in Cuenca, with a new exhibition hall of 50 square meters that will bear the name of Santiago Prieto and will allow “to expand the exhibition the offer of this museum which, in the first nine months of 2024, already exceeds 61,000 visits”, according to the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, Carmen Teresa Olmedo.

Precisely, this Wednesday the exhibition of the 1st Serveo Award Paleoillustration and Product Design Competition was inaugurated. During the 2023-2024 school year, a collaboration agreement was signed between MUPA and the “Antonio López” Higher School of Art and Design of Tomelloso to train students in the basic concepts of paleontology and of scientific illustration.

The competition was divided into two categories, namely paleoillustration and 3D product design. In the case of paleoillustration, two paleontological sites were presented to the students, Lo Hueco and Cerro Arenoso, both located in the province of Cuenca, with the aim of making an illustration based on the knowledge acquired during the training phase.

Meanwhile, for the product design category, students designed a 3D object related to dinosaurs or other paleontological elements, coming up with designs that meet real-world needs or industrial-level design opportunities, such as educational games, toys, corporate products or advertisements, which reflect the identity of MUPA.
