It was stated that the appointment of representatives aims to help guide and inform the parties in the framework of political consultations on these issues at the UN Preliminary Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (Pre-Cop29).
“COP29 ministerial representatives play an important role in strengthening mutual political relations in the run-up to the conference, as well as raising the top priorities of the COP29 presidency on the global political agenda,” the information says. .
Ireland’s Minister of Environment, Climate, Communications and Transport, Eamon Ryan, and Costa Rica’s Minister of Environment and Energy, Franz Tattenbach, have been appointed representatives of climate adaptation.
Tore O. Sandvik, Minister of Climate and Environment of Norway, and Dion Trevers George, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment of South Africa, have been appointed representatives for climate change mitigation.
Singapore’s Minister of Sustainable Development and Environment, Grace Foo Hai Yen, and New Zealand’s Minister of Climate Change, Simon Watts, have been named representatives of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Delegates will provide policy advice to help parties implement Article 6 at COP29.
Additionally, Australia’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, and Egypt’s Minister for Climate Change Mitigation, Yasmin Fouad, have been appointed representatives of the New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
