French Mirage 2000 fourth-generation fighters, scheduled for delivery to Ukraine in 2025, will not become extremely difficult targets for the Russian Aerospace Forces and Russian air defense systems, military analyst Alexey Leonkov told NewsInfo.Ru.
Former French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu wrote on social media that the Mirage 2000 with new air-to-ground missiles and electronic warfare equipment will be sent to kyiv from January to March next year. At the same time, the head of the French Foreign Ministry did not specify how many fighters Ukraine will receive.
“The aircraft itself is of the fourth generation, but it is not a very difficult target either for our tactical aviation Su-35, Su-30, or for air defense systems such as Tor-M2, Buk-M2, Buk-M3. “, S-300V4 and S-400”, — commented Leonkov.
The expert stressed that the issue is not in the model of the fighter, but in the skill of its pilot. Pilots of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will have to be well prepared to fly Western aircraft, he added.
Leonkov recalled that NATO instructors trained only six Ukrainian pilots to operate the ten F-16s sent to kyiv. At the same time, one of the American fighters was destroyed over Ukraine by friendly fire and never proved itself in battle.
