The trial on the cassation appeal against the sentence against Elnur Abbasov, accused of murder 26 years ago, took place in Baku.
APA reports that a decision was made today in the Supreme Court chaired by Judge Nazim Movsumov.
According to the decision, the Supreme Court confirmed the sentence against Elnur Abbasov.
It should be noted that the murder occurred on April 26, 1998 at the fish smoking plant located in the capital. Elnur Abbasov, who worked as an unofficial security guard at the factory, brutally killed Mubariz Rasulova, who worked as a foreman in workshop number 2 of the same factory, with multiple stab wounds during an argument between them. Then, to hide the traces of the crime he committed, he cleaned the scene and put the body in the store’s refrigerator.
Despite the fact that reasonable suspicions were established that the crime was committed by Elnur Abbasov, due to the fact that he left the country’s territory, it was not possible to hold him criminally responsible and a search for him was announced.
On July 1, 2022, Elnur Abbasova was charged again and detained under the Criminal Code in force in 1998. The court’s verdict sentenced him to 13 years in prison.
