Andalusia has found support from the European Committee of the Regions for its proposal to generate a specific financing framework for border regions which must confronting the phenomenon of irregular immigration. The initiative, presented by Andalusian President Juanma Moreno, was included in the opinion of this body and was therefore transferred to the European Commission.

The proposal called on the European Commission to create the concept of “external border regions” in which Andalusia would be included and which would encompass all the border regions where irregular immigration is most widespread.

From there, the Andalusian proposal includes that the European Commission allows a series of financial instruments to ensure the arrival of migrants and that the regions “are consulted before decisions on European migration policy”, a circumstance which does not currently occur.

At the same time, the Andalusian president included in the opinion another proposal aimed at promoting approval of migrants’ university diplomas “so that necessary resources can be used and talent retained.”

Both amendments were supported by the plenary and are part of the decision on migration and asylum which is now transmitted to the European Commission for the adoption of the corresponding measures.
