Quintanar del Rey (Cuenca) hosts the first Mushroom Fair from October 18 to 20

Quintanar del Rey will host from October 18 to 20 the celebration of the first Mushroom Fair thanks to the call for help for the fairs of the Provincial Delegation of Cuenca to highlight this culture and its socio-economic importance in the region of La Manchuela.

An event during which around twenty stands will be present where other products will also be represented such as garlic, wine, truffle, cheese, honey or saffron, among others, as reported by the Provincial Council in a press release.

A fair that was presented to the Provincial Council by the president, Álvaro Martínez Chana; the mayor of Quintanar, Joaquina Saiz Cebrián; the advisor and assistant for entrepreneurship and demographic challenges; Javier Cebrián and the delegate of Agriculture, Rodrigo Fernández.

Martínez Chana thanked municipal officials for organizing this fair which shows the entrepreneurial character of Quintanar del Rey, which is an example of an economic engine and business dynamism linked to the agri-food sector and with the mushroom as a trademark and which represents the livelihood of many families in the region.

The president took the opportunity to thank the work of Center for Research, Experimentation and Services on Mushrooms (CIES) and announce the collaboration with the regional government and the Provincial Council to promote the activity of the center and marks a turning point to put it back into service producers of mushrooms and other crops.

For her part, the mayor of the city recalled that this fair settles a debt because none has taken place with mushrooms as the protagonist despite the fact that the region produces more than 56,800 tons per year, which represents 60% of production. national supply of fresh mushrooms, so it was obligatory to highlight a product that began to be cultivated in the 70s and has diversified, with many mushrooms cultivated today.

Cebrián explained that 19 exhibitors will meet at the fair, of which six mushroom producers and the rest will produce agri-food products from the province such as wine, garlic, saffron, cheese, truffle or honey.

Activities which will be complemented by conferences on pests, treatments or new technologies which will be given by experts and professors.

A fair that will also offer activities for the little ones so that they can enjoy them and help parents to reconcile while they visit the fair and enjoy the showcookings and wine tastings that will take place.

Finally, the delegate of Agriculture congratulated the organizers of the fair for a pioneering and successful initiative to promote such an important culture which “must be cared for, promoted and energized”, recalling that the Regional Government will work through the CIES in the development of this and other mushroom crops that may be important for sectors such as medicine.
