Turkish Airlines pilot dies mid-flight, forces emergency landing in New York

A Turkish Airlines pilot died in mid-flight on a route linking Seattle (United States) to Istanbul and the plane, flown by another pilot and the co-pilot, made an emergency landing in New York without incident, according to the Turkish airline.

The Airbus 350-900 took off Tuesday evening from Seattle, in the northwest of the United States, airline spokesperson Yahya Ustun wrote in X, and was heading towards Istanbul when “the pilot collapsed during the flight”.

The crew tried in vain to resuscitate him, “so it was decided to make an emergency landing”, but the pilot “died before landing”he added.

The pilot, 59 years oldhad worked for Turkish Airlines since 2007 and had a medical examination last March, which revealed no health problems, Ustun wrote.

According to digital media AirLive, the landing took place at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport, tthree hours after the medical incident on board Turkish Airlines flight TK204.
