Armenia flees negotiations: Yerevan’s false peace rhetoric

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who attended the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Moscow on October 8, was remembered for his atypical measures and curious actions. On the one hand, he shared a video riding a bicycle through the capital of Russia and, on the other, he took a photo in shorts and published it on his social media accounts.

Behind this, without a doubt, are hidden various messages directed at Russia. However, on the agenda of that meeting there were quite serious issues of regional importance. At the meeting the leaders of the CIS countries, including the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also participated. Issues of cooperation between the countries of the Union were discussed and several agreements were signed.

It was already anticipated that the Moscow meeting would be important for the development of peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia. However, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan preferred to avoid negotiations, to put it mildly.

The same thing happened at the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers (MEA) of Armenia. The Iranian official acted in accordance with orders and instructions received from the West. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, refused to meet with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov. All this shows that Armenia’s statements about its readiness for peace are hypocritical and that it is fleeing the peace process.

First of all, let’s address the two statements that they refused to sign at the meeting of heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The documents deal with the “Principles for Ensuring Security in Eurasia” and the “Inadmissibility of Unilateral Measures in International Relations.” Secondly, the fact that Armenia has not signed these documents is a serious blow to the authority of the authority, which is already lacking.

Next time, Armenia will try to play a big game using various political forces such as Moscow, Paris, Washington or Tehran. At the same time, it offers its range of services to everyone. These visits to Yerevan have already become the norm for the Pashinyan regime. It should be noted that, on the one hand, he talks about Armenia’s withdrawal from the CSTO and the violation of relations in alliance agreements, and on the other, he again participates in the meeting of the CIS countries.

Pashinyan now does not sign agreements with Moscow and other CIS countries simply because his friends in the West can react sharply and negatively to this measure. The lack of a balanced and unified political vector does not allow Armenia to stabilize and resolve many issues, first of all the problems with Azerbaijan. Therefore, attempts to sit on different chairs at the same time will sooner or later end very sadly for Armenia.

Yerevan may forever lose the opportunity to voluntarily resolve important issues with Moscow and Baku. At some point, he will lose the ability to choose the rules of the game and will have to accept everything, including his own political fiasco, as inevitable.

For this reason, holding a bilateral meeting was considered an important event to reach a peace agreement between the countries. In fact, this meeting was a good opportunity to advance the mediation struggle in the Baku-Iravan negotiations. However, the Armenian side refused to hold the meeting mediated by Russia.

Unlike Yerevan, official Baku declared that it agreed to continue negotiations in Moscow, while official Yerevan refused.

It seems that Armenia is not ready to hold peace talks with Azerbaijan with the participation of Russia. It is clear that Armenia is interested in Western mediation. We see how countries far from the South Caucasus are interested in this issue and are ready to collaborate in some way to solve the region’s problems. The bad thing is that they often consider the development of this region as a losing game. This shows that Armenia’s statements about its readiness for peace are hypocritical and that Pashinyan is running away from the peace process.

Armenia rejects peace talks not only in Moscow, but also in Europe. For example, before the Moscow meeting, a meeting between Armenia and Azerbaijan was planned to be held within the framework of the European Political Community meeting in London. Such a meeting was proposed by Great Britain, the host country of the European Political Community, and was proposed to be in the format of the meeting between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia at the Munich Security Conference. At the beginning of the meeting, German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz participated in the Munich Security Conference, and then the meeting continued in a bilateral format between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Great Britain offered a match in the same format as the hosts.

Hikmat Hajiyev, Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, answering the question of the “Report”, said that the Armenian side rejected it. “Thus, at the beginning of the meeting, the participation of the British Prime Minister should have been the continuation of the meeting between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We consider that Armenia’s rejection of this meeting is a manifestation of its intention to withdraw from the dialogue and the advancement of the peace agenda”.

H. Hajiyev noted that while Armenia talks about peace on various platforms, it is in no way understandable that it would reject a meeting that would serve to advance the peace agenda, and the international community itself should appreciate this, instead of evaluating and promoting the possibilities. of dialogue, Armenia rejects it: “We greatly appreciate this peace initiative from Great Britain.”

Thus, as we mentioned earlier, Yerevan showed its hypocrisy towards the peace process by rejecting the Moscow and London meetings. This shows once again that the country is not capable of forever becoming an independent state, of getting out of advanced and slave-owning psychology.
