German police dismantled a pro-Palestinian camp in Dortmund in connection with the expected visit of environmental activist Greta Thunberg. Given the recent protests in which he participated, the authorities decided that his arrival could cause an increase in the number of participants, which would exceed the permitted number.
The camp, which had been in operation since mid-June and was scheduled to run through the end of October, was closed due to security risks, according to police. Police said that given the potential consequences of Thunberg’s visit, they could not guarantee the safety of protesters.
Greta did not show up in Dortmund and eventually the seven activists present on the scene dismantled the camp at the request of the authorities, taking everything except a few pallets.
On October 7, the anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel, Thunberg visited Berlin to participate in one of the largest pro-Palestinian protests in Europe.
Previously, Cursor reported that Greta Thunberg, known for her strong advocacy for environmental rights, expressed a strong opinion that achievements in the field of climate justice are impossible without eliminating colonial influences. He maintains that the actions of large corporations directly contribute to the destruction of the environment.
In this context, Thunberg singled out Chevron, calling it one of the “world’s leading climate criminals.” He accused Chevron of supporting “genocide” in Israel and stated that:
“The issue of genocide in Gaza and Israeli apartheid is an issue of climate justice.”
The activist called on people to boycott Chevron, emphasizing the need for the company to end its support for Israel.
