The United States is awaiting the extradition of Alexei Andryunin, a Russian and Portuguese national arrested in Portugal, allegedly for money laundering, while two other Russians have been charged with fraud, the US Department of Justice said.
“According to court documents, Gotbit was a known “market maker” in the cryptocurrency industry. Alexey Andryunin, 26, from Russia and Portugal, was the CEO and founder of Gotbit. Andryunin was arrested on October 8, 2024 in Portugal and is awaiting extradition. Fedor Kedrov (from Russia) was the head of market creation at Gotbit. Kavi Jalili (from Russia) was Sales Director of Gotbit”, – says the statement.
Dzhalili and Kedrov are charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit market manipulation related to cryptocurrencies, the department notes.
The charges are part of an investigation into fraud in the cryptocurrency market. In addition to the Russian citizens, charges were brought against 15 other individuals and legal entities, including American citizens, according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice.
