The ELA union called a new day of strike on October 23 to “complete the stay contract in Navarre“and demand that the budgets of the Regional Community “include the elements necessary to improve working conditions”.
The union, as a press release explains, demands an agreement “which guarantees a salary of 1,500 euros for garden growers and a working day of 1,592 hours per year.” October 23 will be “the 22nd day of strike in the residence sector since the opening of the negotiation table in 2021″.
“The workers confirmed that improving their working conditions is not an urgent matter for the Government of Navarra. Although it is a sector financed with public money, managed by private companies “-some of them are vulture funds-, the Government has not until now provided budgetary items which would allow an agreement to be signed under decent conditions”, underlined ELA.
As they added, during the previous legislature, “all political groups agreed in Parliament on a motion in favor of the first residence agreement”, but “year after year, budgets are approved without there is a proposal from the Government of Navarra in this regard“So far, the proposal on the table is the same as that which the employers raised in December 2022 and which all the unions rejected as insufficient,” they underlined.

“Negotiations take so long and such precarious conditions are maintained because women are the ones doing the care work. This agreement is essential to fight against job insecurity and move towards a model of public, universal and free care,” they stressed.
For all these reasons, on the 23rd a gathering will take place at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Social Rights Department. In the afternoon there will be a car caravan that will end with a rally in front of the Patronal Lares (Intelligent Buildings), at 5:30 p.m. At the same time, a rally will take place in front of Casa Misericordia in Tudela.
