China will conduct research on demographic changes in society

Chinese authorities intend to conduct a population sample survey to identify current demographic changes in society. This is reported by TASS in reference to the State Statistics Office of the People’s Republic of China.

According to the department, the study, during which the government intends to study parameters such as age, ethnic origin, level of education, internal migration status, place of residence, employment, marital status, presence of children and other indicators, will take place from October 10 to November 30.

This is due to the fact that in recent years a trend towards an aging population and a decrease in the birth rate has formed in Chinese society. According to official forecasts, the proportion of citizens over 60 years of age in China will exceed 30% in 2035.

Since the 1970s, China has had a restrictive “one family, one child” policy. This caused a rapid decline in the birth rate and an aging population, after which the government began to gradually lift restrictions.

On January 1, 2016, a law came into effect in China allowing each family to have two children. And in May 2021, the authorities allowed her to have up to three children.
