Pedro Sánchez takes on the face of Richard Nixon

Nine of the thirteen articles on the front page of EL ESPAÑOL at the time of writing this column talk about the Koldo affair. The other four, Rafael Nadal. If the tennis player hadn’t retired today, it’s likely that all of our coverage would be devoted exclusively to the corruption plot looming over the head of Pedro Sanchez.

At least two of these news items would have already caused the resignation of any other Prime Minister of any other country in the European Union.

The first of these, the news that Pedro Sánchez personally authorized the trip to Spain of Delcy Rodriguez when the vice-president of the Venezuelan dictatorship was banned from entering EU territory.

The second, that the key man in Koldo’s plot, the commission agent Victor de Aldamaand former CEO of Globalia, Javier Hidalgomet the Vice-President of the Government and Minister of the Economy, Nadia Calvinoand with the vice-president of the State Company of Industrial Participations (SEPI), Bartolomé Lorato negotiate the rescue of Air Europa to the tune of 475 million euros.

The UCO even alludes in its report to the direct participation of Pedro Sánchez, whom the members of the conspiracy call “the 1”, in the rescue of Air Europa.

The first of these news not only places Pedro Sánchez in a very uncomfortable position in relation to Brussels, but it also explodes the supposedly good intentions of the management carried out by the government for the arrival of Edmundo Gonzalez.

“What does the PSOE owe Morocco?” » A new slogan will soon have to be added: “What does Pedro Sánchez owe to Nicolas Maduro?

It is also worth asking, and it is obvious that this is a rhetorical question since we all know the answer, whether the government’s intention was as declared to the media, or whether it was rather to provide a service to the Venezuelan dictatorship. A favor which, disguised as diplomatic goodwill, allowed Edmundo González to save face against the Venezuelans; to dictatorship, by entrenching oneself in power by getting rid of the legitimate winner of the elections; and to the Spanish government, pretending to be a peacemaker while whistling in favor of Maduro’s team.

The second of these news is no less delicate. Because it fills one of the holes in this road of crumbs which leads from Koldo to the office of Pedro Sánchez, and even to Begoña Gomez and the meetings he had with Javier Hidalgo a few months before the Air Europa bailout was granted.

Let us also recall that the Madrid court this week ordered the continuation of the investigation into the president’s wife with one exception, that of the Air Europa affair.as long as truly new facts with incriminating content do not appear and are evaluated in a reasoned judicial decision.

And these “truly new facts with incriminating content” are already on the table today. It is therefore not excluded that the Air Europa affair will be the subject of an investigation again in the more or less near future concerning Begoña Gómez.

The feeling today in Madrid, with the exception of this Monclovita press which will be the last to jump from the Sanchista Titanic, is that the cracks are already irreparable, that water is gushing into the engine room and that many of those who participated in the plot has more and more reasons to speak and less and less to remain silent. Another thing is how long Sánchez resists, holed up in his bubble.

It would be premature to say that Pedro Sánchez is dead. But it would also be absurd to deny that, based on an accumulation of evidence like the current one, not even Richard Nixon.

However, few today remember that the Watergate scandal did not end the Republican president with the publication of information about spying on his Democratic rivals, but rather after two years of investigation and hundreds of articles published both in the Washington Post as in other American newspapers.

The paradigm of the president falling “because of the publication of a scandal in the press” is actually the paradigm of the resilience of a president before the barrage of scandalous news breaks not so much the confidence of citizens in his innocence, but like his political supporters.

Nixon did not fall because Americans demonstrated en masse in front of the White House, but because Barry Goldwater, Hugh Scott (Senate Minority Leader) and John Rhodes (House Minority Leader), the three Republicans met with Nixon to inform him that they were withdrawing their support.

Finally, let us remember that Sánchez only suffered two “existential” political defeats. The first, when his own party forced him to resign as secretary general of the PSOE. The second, when the ERC withdrew its support and forced him to call general elections in 2019.

With Sánchez, his enemies never ended, but rather his “friends”.

There is a second detail of the Nixon affair that is not often remembered today. Gerald Ford He lost the 1976 election because of his decision to pardon Richard Nixon.

Keep that in mind, sir. Feijoo. And above all, keep in mind that such grace is what Pedro Sánchez did with the leaders of the process how to remain inert when you are leader of the opposition and circumstances force you to move forward for your country, for the citizens and for the rule of law.
