Putin’s decision to travel without a visa is a step towards rapprochement with Georgia – Pipia

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to extend the visa-free regime for Georgian citizens is another step towards rapprochement between the countries, according to the Georgian Solidarity for Peace party.

“This decision exceeded all of our expectations. Our party called for the complete abolition of visas for Georgian citizens, a legal employment quota and an amnesty for Georgians deported from Russia. Our two requests were fulfilled. “The Russian side has gone even further: there are no quotas, they simply allow any citizen of Georgia to find a job, in any amount.” – quotes the international secretary of the party Mamuku Pipia “Sputnik Georgia”.

Pipia expressed confidence that relations between Russia and Georgia will develop positively in the future. He also drew attention to the fact that elections will be held in Georgia in October and noted that he hopes for closer relations with neighbors, not just Russia.

President Vladimir Putin extended the conditions of the visa-free regime to all citizens of Georgia by signing the corresponding decree on October 10. The document allows visa-free entry to all citizens of Georgia without exceptions for any category. The visa regime for Russians from Georgia was abolished in 2012.
