Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy Yolanda Díaz has once again spoken out on one of the most recurring issues of recent times regarding labor rights. We are talking about the reduction of the working day.
Díaz announced last Tuesday, during a press conference given to the media after the Council of Ministers, that December 31, 2025 “The entire Spanish employed population, more than 12 million workers, will see their working hours reduced by two and a half hours”.
In addition, The Minister of Labor and Social Economy recognized her intention to accelerate this process as much as possible, and to this end, this reduction in working time will be treated as a bill under urgent procedure.

Concerning the content of the ongoing negotiations with the various agents involved, the leader of Sumar recognized that never makes the texts “public” or the “delayed negotiations”.
“The social dialogue table works because I manage it almost clandestinely. I do not reveal what employers say, I do not reveal what unions say and I do not reveal what the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy says.“, admitted the vice-president.
Later, Díaz reaffirmed his commitment to small businesses. “We have designed a small business support plan that includes bonuses and measures that help businesses that are undoubtedly struggling more than larger ones. We are talking about nano-companies, where reducing the working day is more difficult.”he admitted.
The minister also stated categorically that there was “enough fuses at the social dialogue table” to be able to reach an agreement on this aspectas well as the fact that reducing the working day “will improve productivity”.
Finally, Díaz spoke about his objective with this proposal, which is none other than all workers have “identical rights”regardless of the sector in which they work.
