At least 11 people die after Hurricane Milton in Florida – NBC

At least eleven people died in Florida as a result of Hurricane Milton. NBC reports.

“Hurricane Milton wreaked havoc in Florida, spawning tornadoes, knocking out power to more than 3.3 million power customers, putting nearly 11 million people at risk of flooding, and causing at least 11 deaths.” – reports the television channel.

Hurricane Milton was headed toward the Atlantic Ocean Thursday morning after hitting Florida the night before as a Category 3 storm in Siesta Key, about 70 miles south of Tampa.

It should be noted that at least five deaths were confirmed in St. Lucie County, on the state’s Atlantic coast, where the tornadoes struck. According to police, at least two people died in St. Petersburg during the storm. At least three people died in Volusia County, the sheriff said. One person died in Citrus County after a tree fell on a vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

“The storm’s winds were particularly intense at Venice Beach in Sarasota County, where they peaked at 107 mph. St. Petersburg recorded a staggering 18.31 inches of rain, meeting the 1,000-year rainfall threshold.

The hurricane was not as bad as expected, the state’s governor told reporters at a briefing Thursday morning. Ron Desantis.

“The storm was important, but fortunately it was not the worst case scenario. “The storm weakened before making landfall and the storm surge that was initially reported was not as significant as that seen during Hurricane Helen,” he said.
