Bolivian prosecutors have ordered the arrest of former President Evo Morales after failing to appear before the public prosecutor for the alleged trafficking offenses with which he is accused. The prosecutor of Tarija, Sandra Gutierrezreported Thursday that “in the absence of Morales, what corresponds is to issue the arrest warrant.”
“The law commands it, whether it is Evo Morales, whether it is Juan Pérez, the law is absolutely for everyone and we work on what corresponds according to the law. What corresponds is to issue the arrest warrant, since they were notified without their rights having been violated,” said the authority.
The Bolivian floor also ordered the arrest of the parents of the alleged victimwho were also summoned to testify before the Tarija public prosecutor’s office.
Morales and the parents of the alleged victim had to testify this Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Tarija prosecutor’s office for the complaint which implicates him in the pregnancy of a 15-year-old girl when he was head of state in 2016.
However, lawyer Nelson Cox announced that the coca leader was not going to testify because, according to him, the conditions are not met for the former president to appear at the Tarija Public Prosecutor’s Office.
