The whale that Storm Kirk dragged towards a beach in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra) has been removed

After four hours of work, the remains of the whale left stranded by Storm Kirk on Wednesday in the Pampaido Beach, in Sanxenxo (Pontevedra), were transferred to a special waste plant. Operators from the Transbeyno company were responsible for cutting the cetacean, a female specimen of approximately fifteen tons and eighteen meters longto be able to put him in the truck and take him to these facilities.

So, using electric chainsaws, two workers began work around eleven a.m., coinciding with low tide, cutting the whale into pieces approximately 1,200 kilos. They then loaded them one by one onto the crane and transferred them to the truck made available by the Ministry of the Environment for the transport of the animal, parked 40 meters from the sandy area.

The cost of this work, financed by the Town Hall, around 3,000 euros. The municipality regrets that, despite the fact that the whale has been dead at sea for more than a month, it was the Town Hall which was responsible for removing it “with the substantial expense that this entails.. “Today it was our turn, but another day it was someone else’s turn,” lamented Environment Councilor Yago Torres, who believes that “the most logical thing and safest for navigation” would have been to remove the whale. when I was at sea.

The Town Hall was aware of the existence of the whale near the coast of Sanxenxo last Saturday and communicated it to Secours Maritime faced with the risk of an accident with a boat. Eventually, Storm Kirk dragged the cetacean ashore, in an advanced state of decomposition and causing a strong odor perceptible a few meters away.
