An unusual event occurred in the Russian town of Red Polyana. Tourists managed to capture on video a rare optical illusion called “Broken’s Nightmare.”
Read.Little QTRK “Sochi” reported on this.
This natural phenomenon occurs as a result of the light passing through the clouds projecting the shadow of the observer on them. As a result, a huge silhouette appears in the mountains, often accompanied by a halo around the head.
The natural phenomenon received this name because such phenomena often occur on the top of the Brocken mountain in Germany. According to statistics, this type of “nightmares” are also observed in the Caucasus Mountains, but this happens very rarely.
If we look at history, for the first time, German naturalist Johann Zilis made notes about such an event in 1780. He had seen his own shadow in the clouds and the glow around his head while climbing Mount Brocken early in the morning. The “broken ghost” is sometimes known as the “broken devil.”
