AEMET puts Andalusia and four other communities on alert due to rain, storms, wind and rough seas

This Friday, ten Spanish provinces will be on alert due to rain, storms, winds and sea storms, according to the alert announced by the National Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The most serious situation will be concentrated in Andalusia, with an orange alert – significant risk – in Cádiz, Cordoba, Huelva and Seville, where intense rains and thunderstorms are expected that can exceed 100 liters per square meter in twelve hours in certain areas.

Jaén, Barcelona and Badajoz will also be on yellow alert due to rain. In some areas of Jaén, such as the Guadalquivir Valley, an accumulation of up to 80 liters of water per square meter is expected in twelve hours. On the coast of Barcelona, 20 liters per square meter are expected in an hour due to the accumulation of precipitation, although the alert will end soon, around 10 a.m., according to forecasts from the meteorological agency. And in a good part of the Extremadura community, 15 liters will be collected in an hour.

While Navarre and Galicia will be on alert for winds and waves respectively. In the Navarre Pyrenees, the wind alert is yellow due to the forecast of maximum gusts of up to 80 km/h. In the Galician provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra, the south or southeast wind will have an intensity of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7), which will maintain the maritime storm alert there.

As for temperatures, maximum temperatures will drop in the southwest of the peninsula, the north and in the Mediterranean area, although they will increase in the rest of Spain and the Canary Islands. However, the minimums will decrease in the northeast and increase in the southwest. There will be light frosts in the Pyrenees. The highest temperatures will be recorded in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (28ºC), Murcia (27ºC) and Alicante, Melilla, Palma and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (26ºC).
