G7 health ministers meet in Italy with AI challenge on the table

Health ministers from the G7, the group of the world’s most industrialized democracies, began a summit in Italy on Thursday to, among other things, study how to apply technologies to medicine like Artificial Intelligence (AI). The meeting will last until this Friday in Ancona (west) and will bring together the health ministers of the bloc (Germany, Canada, France, United States, Italy, Japan and United Kingdom) and guests such as Brazilian Minister Nísia. The G7 Health, organized by the The Italian presidency in turnwill be based on three pillars: preparation of the global health architecture for prevention and pandemic responsepromote healthy aging and support the “One Health” approach, with particular attention to antimicrobial resistance.

“The objective is to find direct strategies to adequately address current crises and challenges that have serious social and economic costs, by tackling inequalities,” a G7 statement said.

Ministers will work to determine “better health systems ensuring equal access to treatment, particularly in low- and middle-income countries”. But they will also address the question of prevention “throughout life, from the prenatal phase, with the promotion of healthy lifestyles”. Italian G7 will also encourage applications to medicine “innovative solutions” such as “telemedicine” and AI “improve both quality of life and services” through a modern “person-centered” vision.
