American Sean Grizzly, from Las Vegas, set a new record in the Guinness Book of Records by climbing the height of Everest (8,850 m) at home. To do this, Grizzly went up and down the stairs of his house, covering a distance equivalent to the height of the highest mountain in the world: 29,031 feet (8,848.788 m). He completed his feat in 22 hours, 57 minutes and 2 seconds, which was recorded live on YouTube.
Sean set additional conditions for himself: during the ascent he did not touch the railing and explained that “there is no such thing on Everest.” He decided to not only break a record, but also raise funds for charities involved in suicide prevention.
According to Grizzly, the reason for his action was mental difficulties that arose amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the challenge helped him confront internal problems and at the same time supported an important charitable initiative.
“We were approaching the end of the pandemic and I had a lot of accumulated psychological difficulties, so I decided to combine two goals: break the record and help others,” Sean said in an interview with the Guinness Book of Records.
