“It is absolutely despicable and immoral”

Eneko Andueza, secretary general of the Socialist Party of the Basque Country (PSE-EE), severely attacked the PP and its spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, Miguel Tellado. Andueza said he felt “a lot of disgust” after the “popular” exhibition photographs of twelve socialists murdered by ETA criticize the government for reforming a law that benefits ETA members.

In an interview on the program Public mirrorAndueza said that “using victims of terrorism in such a way results from baseness and absolute immorality“Let them stop groping and exploiting the victims in such a nauseating way,” demanded the socialists.

The socialist stressed that the victims of ETA “must be respected, listened to and placed at the center of democratic values.” “Their use only diminishes the great triumph for democracy and for many of us who risk our lives”, declared the socialist. Regarding the fact that the exception could have been maintained with the ETA prisoners, Andueza denied that this was the case and that the government was not obliged to do so.

Andueza added that all parties and media they had to “demand resignation“Tellado because he did something that is ethically, morally and politically absolutely despicable” and which constitutes “a lack of respect not only for the victims of terrorism” but “for all those who fight against terrorism.”

Likewise, he assured that the PP “He panicked and used the victims as a weapon against the government”. “It’s a common and disgusting thing to justify a vote that they knew about. Don’t you read the small or large print? Don’t bother me. I take responsibility when I voted for something , let it be a transposition that even the PP said it was late, let’s be serious, but the PP got scared and saw an opportunity to attack the government”, he argued.

On Felipe González’s “trafficking”

In response to the words of the former President of the Government, Felipe González, who spoke of “trafficking” when talking about how the initiative to validate sentences was approved, he assured that the democratic and lawful State, “Unfortunately, there are also derivatives of this type. As he pointed out, in this case we must “act in two ways”, one “with rigor” and the other “with sensitivity.”

Andueza assured that “rigor implies having to assume that the transposition had to be carried out and “Everyone knew it” this is why, as he pointed out, it was passed “unanimously” in Congress.

According to him, what cannot be done is “trying to give lessons”, even to leaders like former President Felipe González, “nor even less of the Popular Party”, after the trajectory that “all democrats in the fight against ETA” had.
