Poland and the Baltic countries are preparing for an immediate military response in the event of a possible Russian invasion. At the Defending Baltics conference, Lithuania’s national security advisor Kestutis Budrys warned that after the war in Ukraine, Russia could shift its ambitions to the Baltic states and Poland. He noted that the probability of such a scenario will increase if Belarus fully integrates into the united state with Russia.

Budrys expressed fear that if Russia wins in Ukraine, Russian troops will be stationed at key points on the western border: Lvov, Brest and Grodno. Polish Chief of the General Staff Raimund Andrzejczak also issued a statement that if Russian troops cross the border into Lithuania, there will be an immediate response. He stressed that a retaliatory attack would be launched immediately and that all Russian strategic installations within a 300 kilometer radius would be attacked, including St. Petersburg.
Andrzejczak also said that European countries must take the initiative and demonstrate willingness to take decisive action to prevent possible aggression from Russia. He is confident that only a tough stance can prevent the Kremlin from attacking NATO countries.
To strengthen its defense capabilities, Poland is already purchasing 800 missiles with a range of up to 900 kilometers, which will be used in the event of a Russian attack. Lithuanian army commander Raimundas Vaiksnoras added that the Baltic countries must be prepared to respond immediately to aggression, without waiting for NATO to decide to invoke Article 5.
