Ábalos asks to voluntarily testify before the judge in the Koldo case

The former minister José Luis Ábalos asked to voluntarily testify as a witness before the judge of the National Court Ismael Moreno, who is investigating the ‘Koldo affair‘. Close sources say that the MP wants to clarify the “lies” which, according to him, were told after the publication of the UCO report which attributes to him a “role of responsibility” in the plot.

This decision by the former transport chief comes after Judge Moreno gave an opinion on Thursday first step towards his indictment by asking the President of Congress if he currently holds the seat of deputy. A procedure which would be a preliminary step to sending a reasoned declaration to the Supreme Court, before which he sits, detailing the evidence of criminality which could exist against him.

Thursday, after hearing about this first measure from Judge Moreno, who has already rejected his request to appear as an injured party in the case, his Ábalos did not rule out his accusation: “Everything is possible, I’m not saying no”he declared to questions from LaSexta, in front of whose microphones he admitted that “it was to be expected” for this to happen.

Furthermore, after learning on Thursday that the UCO of the Civil Guard attributes “a relevant role and responsibility in his direct relationship with Koldo, Aldama and the criminal organization energized by the latter”, in recent hours new details on this subject police report.

Thus, this Friday, we learned that the then minister benefited from considerationsof the Koldo plot: in particular, the UCO detected “evidence” that an alleged “straw man” of businessman Víctor de Aldama paid 82,298 euros for the plot rental of the apartment in which the couple lived of Abalos.

Furthermore, the Civil Guard considers that Ábalos could have benefited from a chalet in La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), which he rented, thus obtaining “economic benefits”. The property belonged to Víctor de Aldama, who bought it for 526,000 euros through several intermediary companies controlled by his associate Claudio Rivas.
