Hours later Rafa Nadal announced his retirement from professional tennis, his uncle and former coach, Toni, spoke to ‘Ser’ to analyze the news.
During the interview the Spaniard was put on the table to find out who was the best Spanish athlete in history.
Rafa was put on par with great national legends such as Andrés Iniesta, Pau Gasol, Marc Márquez or Fernando Alonso.
However, Toni doesn’t believe the two-time champion Formula 1 should be in this debate since he has only won two World Cups in the highest category.

“I like to be fair. Rafa Nadal was one of the best in history in his activity. Fernando Alonso won two World Cups“, he explained.
Toni appreciates the longevity of the success that his nephew had and that, unfortunately, the Asturian did not have.
“I know he was and is one of the best riders of recent years, but he won two world championships. I think in this aspect Rafa is superior, he is the second in history with the most Grand Slam tournaments.
