Spain, France and Italy jointly express their “indignation” at the Israeli attack on UNIFIL

Israel attacked the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), known as the Blue Helmets, twice in two days. This Friday, two peacekeepers were injured at UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, southwest Lebanon.

According to the Lebanese national news agency NNA, the attack took place while a “the enemy Merkava tank (supposedly Israeli) attacked one of the UNIFIL towers, injuring two soldiers of the battalion from Sri Lanka“.

The Lebanese state news agency reported that Israeli forces fired an artillery shell at the main entrance to the base, causing damage, while a tank attacked an observation towerinjuring two soldiers from the Sri Lankan contingent.

The attack comes just a day after UNIFIL reported that two peacekeepers Indonesians injured by Israeli projectile impact against a watchtower at the headquarters of Naqoura, amid what he described as attacks “voluntary” of the Israeli army against bases and positions of the UN mission.

After learning of the attack, several countries united to express their condemnation of the Israeli attack. And now, Leaders of Spain, France and Italy united in a statement to express their “indignation” by the Israeli attack.

“The leaders of the three countries express outrage after several peacekeepers were injured in Naqura, Lebanon. These attacks constitute a serious violation of Israel’s obligations under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1071 United Nations and international humanitarian law,” the statement said.
