For the first time, a European Union country issued entry visas to a group of Russian fugitives.

Although it was not revealed which country did it, it is said that six deserters were involved, including staff officers and mobilized personnel.
After the start of the war with Ukraine, they left the service without leave and went to Kazakhstan. In the spring of 2024 they were granted a visa for Europe and in October they arrived in France, where they requested asylum.
The publication established that the Russian fugitives were helped by Kazakh human rights defenders and activists. They verified his story and proved his involvement in war crimes. In Europe, Russian human rights activists have already persuaded local authorities to issue entry documents to fugitives.
According to estimates, there are hundreds of Russian defectors in Armenia and Kazakhstan, and neither country is considered safe.
